Opportunity Insights, in partnership with HarvardX, launched an online learning opportunity called Big Data for Social Good. Hosted by Harvard Business School Online, an online platform managed by Harvard Business School, the course consists of approximately 20 hours of material delivered over a four-week period.

Modeled after Professor Raj Chetty’s successful course Using Big Data to Solve Economic and Social Problems, Big Data for Social Good shows learners how big data can be used to understand and address some of the most important social and economic problems of our time.

The course will give students an introduction to frontier research and policy applications in economics and social science in a non-technical manner that does not require prior coursework in economics or statistics.

Topics include equality of opportunity, neighborhoods and housing, education, racial disparities, and innovation and entrepreneurship. In the context of these topics, the course will also provide an introduction to basic methods in data science, including regression, causal inference, and quasi-experiments.
