A central part of Opportunity Insights’ mission is to train the next generation of researchers and policy leaders on methods to study and improve economic opportunity and related social problems.
Based at Harvard University, our team of researchers and policy analysts work together to analyze new data and create a platform for local stakeholders to make more informed decisions.
Predoctoral Fellow
Tom is a Pre-Doctoral Fellow at Opportunity Insights, where he researches the relationship between social capital and upward mobility with Profs Raj Chetty, Matthew Jackson, Theresa Kuchler, and Johannes Stroebel. His educational background includes a BSc in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Warwick University, an MPhil in Development Studies from Cambridge University, and an MASc in Data, Economics, and Development Policy from MIT.
Tom has worked as an economist in the UK’s Government Economic Service on local growth policy and evaluation. He has also worked as a Consultant at the World Bank’s Development Impact Evaluation (DIME) unit, where he supported research in the transport and governance programs. During his time at MIT, he worked as a Research Assistant at OI on the two social capital papers published in Nature in 2022.
