Suzanne Smalley


Suzanne Smalley is a Washington, DC-based media consultant for Opportunity Insights. Prior to joining Opportunity Insights, Suzanne directed editorial events for The Atlantic, where she worked for seven years and oversaw a major expansion of the Atlantic’s editorial events portfolio.  Prior to The Atlantic, Suzanne spent a decade as a reporter, rising from a summer intern in 2000 to a national correspondent at Newsweek, where she ultimately covered two presidential campaign cycles as the magazine’s lead reporter on the Hillary Clinton and John McCain campaign planes in 2008. In between two stints at Newsweek (2001-2004 and 2007-2010), Suzanne spent three years at the Boston Globe, where she covered the Boston Police Department during a historic crime wave. Suzanne graduated from Georgetown magna cum laude in 1998 and earned an MA in Journalism from Northwestern University in 2000.
