Opportunity Insights in Classrooms

Supporting educators in bringing big data learning to classrooms and expanding the future of economic mobility scholarship.
Opportunity Insights is bringing its research on economic mobility into classrooms to make it more accessible and to broaden who engages with this work. Rooted in OI’s mission to train the next generation of social scientists and practitioners, this effort connects students and educators to the data, tools, and questions that shape the study of opportunity. Through partnerships that create publicly available curriculum and collaboration with educators, OI is working to translate research into real-world learning environments and expand the pipeline into the field.
Guidance from the Field
This work is guided by an Advisory Board of experienced school leaders, curriculum experts, and classroom educators with deep experience connecting research to teaching practice. Board members provide input on curriculum, educator partnerships, and overall strategy, helping ensure these efforts remain practical, relevant, and responsive to the needs of teachers and students.

Learning in Practice: Opportunity Fellows
The Opportunity Fellows program brings this work into classrooms through direct collaboration with educators. This year-long fellowship supports a cohort of teachers in developing and testing ways to integrate real-world data into teaching about economic opportunity, helping translate research into classroom-ready resources and approaches.
2026–2027 Opportunity Fellows
This inaugural cohort brings together 24 educators teaching 6 subjects spanning economics, statistics, data science, social studies, ELA, and CTE. Fellows represent a range of public, charter schools and independent schools across 10 states and Canada, reaching students from kindergarten – 12th grade.
